Sometimes called the triangle steak or Santa Maria steak, our grass fed tri tip steak is a well-marbled, great little steak to serve as a main dish all on its own. It’s a perfect cut for grilling, but also is good pan-seared in a skillet. The result is a tender, flavorful cut of beef with a buttery taste.
This is an easy steak to cook in a skillet or on a grill. For both methods, marinate the steak for about 30 minutes in olive oil then cook over medium heat for 5 minutes on the fattier side, then 8 minutes on the lean side. It's important to not overcook a grilled tri tip steak otherwise it will become tough. We recommend taking the steak to more more than a medium level of doneness.
This is a popular and easy steak to smoke. To smoke a tip steak preheat smoker to 290 degrees using a flavorful wood. Smoke for 60-90 minutes or until the steak reaches an internal temperature of 135 degrees. Let rest for 10 minutes and enjoy!
