Cooking Tips

Grass-finished beef bratwurst delivers a clean, hearty flavor with a satisfying snap, making it a great alternative to traditional pork brats. Because they’re leaner, they cook best with moderate, steady heat to stay juicy and prevent the casing from splitting. These brats shine on the grill, in a skillet, or simmered gently in beer with onions for a classic, crowd-pleasing preparation.

General Tips:

  • Cook over medium heat—high heat can cause splitting or dryness
  • Turn frequently for even browning on all sides
  • Rest a few minutes after cooking to keep the juices inside

Grill Tips:

  • Preheat the grill to medium and lightly oil the grates
  • Grill 3–4 minutes per side, rotating often to build an even, golden crust
  • Move to indirect heat if they begin to brown too quickly
  • Avoid piercing the casing—this releases juices and can dry out the brat

Beer Brats (Highly Recommended):

  • Simmer brats gently in a pan with beer, sliced onions, and a little butter for 10–15 minutes
  • Finish on the grill for a flavorful crust and smoky finish
  • Serve with mustard, sauerkraut, or sautéed onions for a classic pairing
